Cheryl Renee Brundy Sanford, 68, of Leavenworth, Kansas, was called home to glory on June 16, 2024 at KU Medical Center after a six month battle with pancreatic cancer and complications from pneumonia.

On February 6, 1956, Cheryl was born to Dorothy Brundy. She attended Leavenworth High School, where she was a star basketball player on one of the first ever girls basketball teams, a chearleader, a powderpuff football player, a member of many clubs, and a class officer. She played the saxophone in band throughout her formal school years and marched in local parades. She was also the first black girl to play Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" play at LHS. After graduating in 1974, she attended Emporia State College. In 1978, she became employed at Hallmark Cards where she worked for 28 years before retiring. She was united in marriage to Scott Sanford in 1983. They remained together for over 30 years. They had two daughters: Whitney and Brittany. Cheryl was a longtime member of Independent Baptist Church where she faithfully sung in the choir as a child, then later served on the usher board and became a director for the Sunbeam department for several years.

Cheryl was always the life of the party. She befriended people from all walks of life. She loved her family and spending time with her grandkids. She also loved plants, the NFL Oakland Raiders and KU Jayhawks, and collecting watermelon figurines and African American antiques. She was well-known for making the best deviled eggs and sweet potato pies and never, ever forgetting to call family and friends on their birthday.

Cheryl is survived by her two daughters: Whitney Sanford; and Brittany Sanford; one grandson, Eian Gant-Sanford, one granddaughter, Phoebe Cox-Canford; her three brothers: Donald Hatcher (Pat), Michael Brundy (NaOra), and Joey Brundy (Rosalind); and for sisters: Pat Brooks, Joan Coubarous (Lloyd), Rebecca Brundy-Young, and Michele McRoy. Additional survivors include: eight nephews and a niece, several great nephews and nieces, Uncle William "Billy" Davis, one brother-in-law Fred McCleary, Jr; and lots of cousins. She also leaves behind extended family and special friends.

She is proceeded in death by Scott Sanford, her mother: Dorothy Brundy, father: Joseph W. Brundy Jr., brother: Jeffrey W. Brundy Sr., special cousin: Tanisha Davis, and grandparents: Dorothy and Bill Davis Sr., and Joseph and Vera Brundy Sr.

A memorial service will be Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 3:00 pm at First Missionary Baptist Church, 800 W. 7th Street, Leavenworth, KS 66048.

Cheryl's body was donated to science and Belden Larkin funeral home was only involved inthis obituary.
