Goldie Inez Watkins
October 21, 1956 – October 1, 2020
Goldie Inez Watkins was born Oct. 21, 1956, at Muncie Army Hospital to Goldie and Curtis E. Watkins. In 1983, Goldie gave birth to her miracle baby, whom she loved more than words can explain.
Ms. Goldie graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1974. Shortly after that, she joined the United States Army and began her military career at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After her service with the United States Army, she began working at the Fort Leavenworth Child Development Center, where she ran the hourly room, also known as “The Dinosaur Room” and was given the endearing nickname, “Ms. D” by the children she cared for that loved her dearly.
After retiring from the Child Development Center, she became a bus monitor and then after falling ill, began volunteering at Welcome Central with Sister Vickie Perkins in 2014.
Ms. Goldie enjoyed collecting blue birds, playing BINGO, and going to the casino. She was tenacious, full of life, and loved by all that knew her.
Goldie was a lifelong member of her family’s church Independent Baptist Church, Leavenworth, Kansas.
Fighting until the very end, she was preceded in death by her parents, Goldie and Curtis E. Watkins, her grandparents, Inez and Robert Lang, Juanita Lallis, and Curtis Watkins.
Survived by her daughter, children from another mother; sisters, niece, great-nephew; uncles. She leaves behind best friend, close family friend along with a host of relatives and friends. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/216529391/goldie-inez-watkins
