50 Years of Wrestling Excellence, 1957-2007
Pictured left to right: Bob Van Horn, long time wrestling father, announcer, and fan; with 1972 State Championship Team members- Paul Allen, Durand Dickerson, David L. Thompson, Jeff Mayhugh, Mike Jarvis, and Hartwell Taylor. Not many schools can boast of a half century of a sport program, but Leavenworth High School can. The Leavenworth High School wrestling program began in 1957 as a way to give football players additional off-season conditioning. The program has instilled hard work, ethics, confidence, and mental toughness in many young men. These skills serve them well in their life after high school.
